EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (ECE) KIT

INTRODUCTION:

  • Learning begins at birth: 80% of the brain is developed in the early years i.e., from birth to the age of eight years.
  • Early years are critical in acquisition of concepts, skills and attitudes that lay down the foundation for life long learning.
  • Inadequate or inappropriate learning opportunities during these years can hamper in complete development of mental abilities of the children.
  • Early Childhood experiences are the building blocks of the child development and the child is architect of his or her own brain.

ECE IN PAKISTAN:

  • Commitment in Education Sector Reforms, Action Plan (2001-2004) to initiate and formalize pre-primary in urban and rural government schools.
  • Needs of the so far neglected KATCHI / UNENROLLED age group.
  • Development of National Curriculum for ECE in 2002.
  • Since 2002, the curriculum has been implemented only in those areas of Pakistan where there was awareness of the importance of ECE and Teacher training was available.
  • Revised ECE Curriculum in 2006-07

ECE IN PUNJAB:

  • Government of the Punjab, School Education Department built ECE Resource Rooms in Schools.
  • Government of the Punjab, School Education Department, intends to equip the schools in ECE sector.
